Fairhaven Area: Northwest Washington Resurfacing - #9193

Glacier Area: Hedrick Creek Fish Passage - #9042

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing an old narrow culvert and replacing it with a new bridge on SR 542 near Glacier.

  • Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20 - Crews will work on the Hedrick Creek fish passage project at milepost 32 on SR 542 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Be aware of crews working on the shoulders and use caution traveling through this work zone. They do not expect to need lane closures during this work.
Mount Baker Highway: Northwest Washington Resurfacing - #9193

  • Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20 - Crews will close one lane of SR 542/Mount Baker Highway east of Glacier near Mount Baker Ski Area from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for pavement repair. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the open lane.
Ferndale Area: SR 548/Grandview & Kickerville Road Intersection Improvements - #9218

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Tiger Construction will build a roundabout at the intersection of SR 548 and Grandview/Kickerville Roads to improve safety. This intersection is currently a 4-way-stop and will remain that way until the roundabout project begins.

  • Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20 - Crews will alternate traffic on SR 548 at Kickerville Road and close access to and from the intersection from the northern side of Kickerville Road while they excavate the area, widen the roadway and make stormwater adjustments.
  • Monday, July 23, through Friday, July 27 - Crews will alternate traffic on SR 548 at Kickerville Road and close access to and from the southern section of Kickerville Road as they excavate and widen that side of SR 548.
  • Monday, July 30, through Sunday, Aug. 5 - Crews will alternate traffic on SR 548 and close access to and from the southern section of Kickerville Road as they install roundabout islands and curbing on the southern side of SR 548.
  • Monday, Aug. 6, through Sunday, Aug. 12 - Crews will alternate traffic along SR 548 at Kickerville Road and close the northern access to and from Kickerville Road while they build the northern side of a new roundabout.
  • Monday, Aug. 13, through Friday, Aug. 17  - Crews will put down a final layer of asphalt, clean-up the area and apply temporary striping. Flaggers will alternate travelers through the area during some of this work.
Big Lake to Sedro-Woolley Area: Northwest Washington Resurfacing - #9193

  • Monday, July 23 through Wednesday, July 25 - Crews will close one lane of SR 9 between West Big Lake Boulevard and SR 20 starting at 7 a.m. Monday, July 23 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25 for resurfacing and sweeping work. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the two-mile moving work zone around-the-clock. Daytime travelers should expect lengthy delays.
Big Lake Area: Gribble Creek Fish Passage - #9167

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are improving fish habitat through Gribble Creek under SR 9 in the Lake McMurray area.

  • Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20 - Crews could alternate traffic through this area occasionally between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday during fish passage improvement work. Flaggers will alternate traffic through an open lane.
  • ***HIGH IMPACT*** Monday, July 30, through Friday, Aug. 3 - Crews will close SR 9 north of Big Lake at 7 a.m. Monday, July 30, through 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3 in both directions for culvert replacement work. To detour around this closure, drivers should use SR 534, I-5 and SR 538 to navigate around this closure. Bicyclists should use SR 534, Cedardale, Anderson and South Laventure roads and Bike Route 14.
Clear Lake Area: Francis Road Intersection Improvements - #9219

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from SRV Construction are building a roundabout at the intersection of SR 9 and Francis/Old Day Creek Roads to improve safety.

  • Through Friday, July 20 - Old Day Creek Road is closed at SR 9 a signed detour via North Front Street is in place.
  • Monday, July 16, through Thursday, July 19 - Crews will close one lane of SR 9 at Francis Road from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for roundabout work. Flaggers will alternate traffic through an open lane.
  • **LARGE VEHICLE RESTRICTION** Monday, July 16 through Friday, Aug. 17 - Starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 16 and lasting through 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, Crews will restrict access through the intersection of SR 9 and Francis/Old Day Creek roads to all vehicles longer than 40 feet while they do roundabout curb work. Long vehicles should use SR 20, I-5 and SR 534 to reach SR 9 destinations on the other side of this intersection.
Sedro-Woolley Area: SR 20 & SR 9 Paving & ADA Improvements - #9221

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Granite Construction are repaving three miles of SR 20 and one mile of SR 9 through Sedro-Woolley. Crews will also improve nearly a dozen highway crossings to improve access for people of all abilities.

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Lakeside Industries are improving pedestrian access at more than three dozen areas for people of all abilities and are paving two different sections of the SR 20 Spur through Anacortes.

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Tapani Inc. are building a roundabout at the intersection of SR 20 and Miller/Gibralter Roads, and the SR 20 Spur (Sharpes Corner) to improve safety and efficiency.

2018 Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage
  • Friday, July 13, through Saturday, July 14 - People driving and bicycling should be aware of runners on the shoulders of the road starting at 5 a.m. Friday, July 13 near Blaine, through 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14 near Langley. Runners may be in various areas along SR 548, I-5, SR 11, SR 538, SR 20 and SR 525 during this relay footrace event stretching through Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties. 2018 Blaine Art and Jazz Festival
  • Saturday, July 14 - Event organizers will close SR 548/Peace Portal Drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. between H Street to G Street for the 2018 Blaine Art and Jazz Festival.
2018 Tour de Whatcom
  • Saturday, July 21 - Travelers should be aware of extra bicyclists on I-5, SR 11, SR 539, SR 542, SR 544, SR 546 and SR 548 between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the annual Tour de Whatcom cycling event. For exact course information, visit the event website.
