Weekly update of construction closures in Downtown Seattle and SODO

This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic through downtown Seattle and SODO. If a highway is not listed below, there are no scheduled lane closures at this time, although emergency lane closures may still occur.

This information changes frequently so please check back often. Travelers can also call 5-1-1 or monitor @WSDOT_Traffic on Twitter for real-time traffic and weather updates.

Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

  • Sunday, Sept. 9, to Thursday, Sept. 20 - The Pike and 9th Street on-ramp to the northbound I-5 express lanes will close at 9 p.m. nightly for WA State Convention Center construction work.

NB MLK Jr Way to NE Ravenna Br Pavement Repair - #8952

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing 37 expansion joints and large sections of concrete pavement on northbound I-5 between MLK Junior Way South/SR 900 in Tukwila and Northeast Ravenna Boulevard in Seattle.

LANE CLOSURES 

  • Sunday, Sept. 16, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 between SR 900 and Albro Place will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, Sept. 17, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - The three left lanes of northbound I-5 between the University Street on-ramp and the Mercer Street off-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, Sept. 17, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - The three left lanes of northbound I-5 between Denny Way and SR 520 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, Sept. 17, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - Two lanes of southbound I-5 between Corson and South Holgate Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

RAMP CLOSURES

  • *HIGH IMPACT** Friday, Sept. 14, to the morning of Monday, Sept. 17 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Seneca Street will close at 2 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
  • Friday, Sept. 14, to the morning of Monday, Sept. 17 - The Northeast Ravenna Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, Sept. 17, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - the University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

SB S Lucile St to Spring St Pavement Repair & ADA - #9235

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing broken concrete panels, grinding and repaving southbound I-5 and the collector/distributor between Spring Street and South Lucile Street in Seattle.

  • Friday, Sept. 14, to the morning of Monday, Sept. 17 - Up to three right lanes of southbound I-5 between South 272nd Street and South 320th Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 11:59 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, Sept. 17, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 between Mercer Street and I-90 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • **HIGH IMPACT**Friday, Sept. 21, to the morning of Sunday, Sept. 23 - Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 between Mercer Street and I-90 will close at 10 p.m. Friday and reopen at 10 a.m. Sunday.

RAMP CLOSURES

  • Thursday, Sept. 13, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 14 - The southbound I-5 off-ramp to South Dearborn Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Sound Transit's East Link Extension - E130

Express Lanes Entrances Electronic Sign Replacement

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing the sign structures and brackets, along with the electrical and fiber optic systems at seven entrances to the I-5 express lanes. A few of the sign structures will also be redesigned to create a better viewing angle.

Ship Canal Bridge Deck Repair Work

Roy St to N 145th St Paving & ADA Compliance - #9256

Description: WSDOT construction crews are grinding and repaving 7.5 miles of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North between Roy Street and North 145th Street in Seattle. Dozens of pedestrian ramps will also be rebuilt.

  • Monday, Sept. 17 - The Business Access and Transit (BAT) lane in both directions of SR 99 between North 115th Street and North 117th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 17, to the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 18 - The Business Access and Transit (BAT) lane and one mainline lane in both directions of SR 99 between Roy Street and North 145th Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 18 - The Business Access and Transit (BAT) lane in both directions of SR 99 between North 125th Street and North 130th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 18, to the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 19 - The Business Access and Transit (BAT) lane and one mainline lane in both directions of SR 99 between Roy Street and North 145th Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 19, to the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 20 - The Business Access and Transit (BAT) lane in both directions of SR 99 between North 135th Street and North 145th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 19, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 - Two lanes of northbound SR 99 between North 50th Street and North 67th Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Aurora Bridge Painting (Stage 2) - #9168

Description: WSDOT construction crews are cleaning and repainting the Aurora Bridge. Crews are also grinding and repaving the driving surface of the bridge, and repairing seven expansion joints.

Montlake Bridge Deck Repair Work
