- Title: WSDOT Bridge Structures (Under Locations)
- Edition: 2014.1
- Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: vector digital data
- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
This dataset provides geospatial locations and vertical clearance information for structures managed, or route crossings managed, by the Bridge Preservation Office (BPO) of WSDOT.The 'ON' Locations are lines and represent a structure that carries a roadway over a feature. If their is a vertical clearance restriction ON the structure it will appear in the VCMIN/VCMAX fields. The 'UNDER' Locations are points and represent a point at which a roadway crosses beneath a structure, or in a few cases the point identifies a structure in which there is no roadway on the structure and no roadway beneath the structure. Vertical clearance restrictions for a particular crossing will be represented in the VCMIN/VCMAX fields.
- Purpose:
-
This data was compiled to provide locations of WSDOT/Bridge Preservation managed structures as well as their vertical clearances.

For Planning use only. The Washington State Department of Transportation shall not be liable for any activity involving these data with regard to lost profits or savings or any other consequential damages; or the fitness for use of the data for a particular purpose; or the installation of the data, its use, or the results obtained. Vertical Clearance data is usable as a guide for clearances, but because of physical changes to highways and other possible inconsistencies due to new construction, pavement overlays, etc., it cannot be guaranteed. As is stated on all permits, the operator “...shall be responsible and liable for all accidents, damage or injury ... and ... shall hold blameless ... the Washington State Department of Transportation and members thereof...” The operator is also “... responsible to clear overhead obstructions.” WAC 468-38-070 states, “It is the responsibility of the permit applicant to check, or prerun, the proposed route and provide for safe maneuvers around the obstruction or detours as necessary.”

Route ID - a unique Route identifier assigned by WSDOT's GIS and Roadway Data Office. Every WSDOT highway in Washington State is assigned a unique Route ID, including interstates and U.S. Routes.
Where the Route ID is not consistent with an ID on the state represented roadways then they are either associated with the Local Agency Public Roads (LAPR) network or County Road routes.

Tunnel lengths are measured along the centerline of roadway from opening to opening.

This is the maximum passable clearance for a given crossing location.
Practical maximum vertical clearance over the inventory route identified
in WSBIS Item 1435, in the direction of increasing mileposts, whether the route is
on the structure or under the structure. This field identifies the minimum vertical
clearance for the lane that will carry the highest load, regardless of the direction of
travel. When no restriction exists leave this item blank. When the restriction is 100
feet or greater code 9912.
When the inventory route is on the structure, and the restriction imposed is another
bridge (and not this bridge’s superstructure), leave this field blank.

This item is the actual minimum vertical clearance over the bridge roadway, including shoulders, to any superstructure restriction (excluding sign structures), in feet and inches, rounded to the lesser inch (e.g., 16′-3¾″ is to be coded 1603). For double decked structures the minimum is coded, regardless whether it is pertaining to the top or bottom deck. When no superstructure restriction exists above the bridge roadway 9999 is coded. When a restriction is 100 feet or greater 9912 is coded.
When the restriction imposed is another bridge, that dimension is recorded as
the Minimum Vertical Clearance Under Bridge, WSBIS Item 1374, for that bridge
record. Code 9999 for this bridge record.
