SEATTLE – Drivers traveling between Seattle and the Eastside will need to plan ahead for the next two weekends because construction crews are closing State Route 520’s westbound lanes tonight, Friday, Dec. 2, followed by a full highway closure Dec. 9-12.
Washington State Department of Transportation contractor crews working on the West Approach Bridge North project will use the overnight westbound closure tonight to pour concrete for the bridge’s roadway deck where it connects with the new SR 520 floating bridge. The crews will use the existing west approach bridge, just south of the new structure being built, as a platform for the concrete pours. Due to inclement weather, the closure the night of Dec. 3 has been cancelled.
Next weekend – from Friday night, Dec. 9, to Monday morning, Dec. 12 – crews will close SR 520 in both directions to pour more concrete, begin removing old ramps, install signs and lighting, and perform routine maintenance throughout the corridor.
Crews from several projects will coordinate their work during the Dec. 9-12 weekend closure. West Approach Bridge North crews will begin removing the remaining section of the old westbound off-ramp to Lake Washington Boulevard that crosses over SR 520’s existing lanes. They’ll also pour concrete for the new west approach bridge. On the Eastside, crews will work on installing additional signage and illumination, and complete asphalt repair. Crews with the Floating Bridge and Landings project and WSDOT’s Toll Division will complete maintenance work on their respective projects.
