Public open house in Stevenson on Tuesday, March 7

STEVENSON – Community members are invited to an open house on Tuesday, March 7, to see the preferred design that will help keep the town of Carson connected to State Route 14 in the Columbia River Gorge.

Last year, the Washington State Department of Transportation gathered public input to understand and incorporate desired benefits for the project, and based on that information, engineers are moving forward with designs for a roundabout at the intersection of SR 14 and Wind River Road.

With erosion threatening one of two access points between the highway and Carson, WSDOT, in partnership with Skamania County, developed several potential solutions to maintain reliable access to the town for people and freight.

"The community made it clear that economic vitality and safety are most important to them," said WSDOT Project Engineer Devin Reck. "When applying these priorities to each potential design, the roundabout concept is the best fit for keeping traffic and freight moving through the intersection, in addition to greater safety benefits by reducing the potential for severe collisions."

Open house information

  • When: 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7
  • Where: Hegewald Center, 710 S.W. Rock Creek Drive, Stevenson
