72-hour closure starts July 19; signed detour provided

MEDICAL LAKE – Travelers using the State Route 902 and Craig Road intersection in Medical Lake will want to allow extra travel time starting the evening of Thursday, July 19, due to a weekend-long closure for roundabout construction.

The intersection will be closed for 72 hours and signed detours will be available. When it reopens, travelers will use a single-lane compact roundabout to negotiate the intersection. The roundabout is designed to improve safety by reducing the potential for and severity of collisions at the intersection

Work will take place during one long weekend to minimize disruptions. The intersection will close at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 19, and reopen at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22.

Constructed within the existing intersection footprint, the compact roundabout functions the same way as a larger roundabout, but it will require large trucks to use more of the center section of the roundabout to negotiate the turns.

The roundabout is part of the overall paving project that will grind and resurface 6 miles of pavement from Medical Lake to Interstate 90, and also install rumble strips on SR 902,  US 2, and US 395. The project is scheduled to be completed in mid-August.
