The study of State Route 162 between Sumner and Orting in Pierce County is underway. The study will develop near-, mid- and long-term alternatives to improve operations, safety and mobility for all users.

Purpose

SR 162 is an important north-south link through Pierce County for moving people and goods. It connects the cities of Sumner and Orting. It is also a vital connection between SR 410 and the Orting Valley. Using data-driven analysis, this study will look at ways to improve safety, access, and mobility. This includes the possible addition of a center turn lane. Recommendations published in the study report will be used to pursue funding for design and construction.
