Local Agency jurisdiction over wetlands & other waters

Cities and counties often regulate wetlands and other waters through municipal or county codes. Usually, wetlands and waters are protected by the local agency’s Critical Area Ordinances. Local agency regulations typically impose stricter mitigation ratios and buffer areas than the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
