Feb. 27 open house shares information about construction plans

FIFE – Community members are invited to an open house to learn about the 70th Avenue East bridge construction project, which will build a larger bridge over Interstate 5 as well as make other improvements.

This project will improve access across Interstate 5 for people who drive, bike, and walk through this busy corridor. Community members and local business representatives are encouraged to attend to meet the Washington State Department of Transportation project team, hear updates about what to expect during and after construction and ask questions.

The 70th Avenue East bridge project is the first stage of the State Route 167 Completion Project, which, when completed, will extend SR 167 by 6 miles, connecting it to I-5, SR 99 and the Port of Tacoma.

6 - 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27

Fife Community Center, 2111 54th Avenue East, Fife, WA

No formal presentation will be given; community members can stop by any time to talk with project staff.

Starting this month, WSDOT crews will build the new four-lane 70th Avenue East bridge over I-5 just south of the existing two-lane bridge. The project also includes a new roundabout at the intersection of 70th Avenue East and SR 99, a 12-foot wide path for pedestrians and bicycles, a new Interurban Trail parking lot and several hundred feet of trail. WSDOT plans to open the new bridge to traffic by summer of 2021. To learn more, visit the construction webpage.

Puget Sound Gateway Program

The SR 167 Completion Project is part of the Puget Sound Gateway Program along with the SR 509 Completion Project in King County. Together the two projects will create vital connections between I-5 and the Port of Tacoma, a southern access point to Sea-Tac International Airport and a north-south alternative to I-5.
