I-5 - SB - Toutle River Bridge - Expansion Joint, Deck Repair and Overlay - project map

In summer 2019, Washington State Department of Transportation contractors, M.J. Hughes Construction, Inc., will begin work to resurface the bridge deck along the southbound span of the Toutle River Bridge between mileposts 51.48 and 51.95, on Interstate 5, just north of Castle Rock, in Cowlitz County.

Originally built in 1969, the Toutle River Bridge deck surface is showing it's age and is in need of repair. Over time, a combination of heavy traffic and weather conditions have caused the bridge deck surface to deteriorate, causing cracks and rutting in the pavement. Resurfacing work will preserve the integrity of the bridge deck, extend the life of the bridge, and provide a smooth and safe connection for all travelers along I-5.
