Needs & benefits

In 2019, contractor crews working for WSDOT will grind old asphalt and repave all lanes in both directions of SR 522 between the North Creek Bridge in Bothell and SR 9 near Woodinville. They’ll also repave some of the SR 522 on- and off-ramps in that area.

This portion of SR 522 is rough, with ruts and cracks from years of vehicle traffic. Repaving it will provide a smoother surface for people who travel on the highway, and protect the underlying layers that support the roadway. The work will also limit the need for emergency repairs. This portion of SR 522 was last paved in 1998.

This section of repaving will connect with a newly paved stretch of SR 522 between SR 9 and the Snohomish River Bridge.

Most of the work on this project will take place during the overnight hours. Grinding and repaving will require lane and ramp closures. However, at least one lane will remain open at all times.
