SR 99 - George Washington Bridge - Painting (Stage 2) & Paving - Weekend closures

Contractor crews will scrape and repave the driving surface of the SR 99 Aurora Bridge in Seattle, repair an expansion joints on the bridge deck and reseal six other expansion joints. This work will require up to 10 weekend-long lane reductions with the bridge reduced to one lane in each direction. Weekend closures, which are weather-dependent, will begin at 7 p.m. on Fridays and last until 5 a.m. on Mondays. Scheduled weekends include:

  • May 31-June 3: Complete
  • June 14-17: Complete
  • July 12-15: Postponed
  • Aug. 9-12: Postponed
  • Aug. 16-19: Complete
  • Aug. 23-26

Aug. 23-26 lane reductions
From 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, the SR 99 Aurora bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction for deck and expansion joint repairs and repaving. Crews will pave the northern end of the northbound lanes. The work is weather-dependent. People who usually travel the bridge should be prepared for delays, or plan alternative routes through the city or on I-5.
