US 2 - I-5 Interchange to Bickford Ave Vic - Paving - Project detours

Contractor crews will need to close the westbound lanes of US 2 between SR 9 and I-5 for up to six weekends. During the closures they will remove broken asphalt, inspect the trestle, make necessary repairs, apply a new coat of waterproof material and repave the highway.

The waterproof material must be applied to a completely dry surface that hasn't been exposed to rain for at least 24 hours, and must be installed in dry conditions to make sure it bonds properly. For this reason, all closures are weather-dependent. We have identified seven possible weekends for the two remaining closures.

This work is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday on the following dates in 2019:

  • June 21 – 24 - Postponed
  • June 28 – July 1 - Postponed
  • July 12 – 15
  • July 19 – 22
  • August 2 – 5
  • August 9 – 12
  • August 16 - 19

If weather postpones a closure, we will use the next weekend as identified above.

During the full weekend closures of westbound US 2 between I-5 and State Route 9, crews will work on the west end of the Hewitt Avenue trestle. The 20th Street Southeast detour route used in 2018 will not be available. Instead, this will be the official detour for southbound drivers.

This will be the official northbound detour route during the last two full weekend closures of westbound US 2 between I-5 and State Route 9 in 2019.

The eastbound trestle is made of newer concrete, and does not require full weekend closures.
