US 395 - Bridge Pier - Redirectional Landform Mitigation - Completed September 2019

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will be working with contractors during the summer and fall of 2019 around the region to update and repair guardrail and other roadside safety items.

Needs & benefits

This project updates and repairs existing safety features currently in place along several routes in Eastern Washington. Guardrail will be raised and upgraded, redictional landforms around piers will be removed and replaced with a barrier. Guardrail end treatments will be upgraded to new crashworthy terminals.

Eastern Region CCTV Systems - New Installs - Complete June 2019

Project awarded to Power City Electric, Inc.

Needs & benefits

Two new CCTV system cameras were installed spring and summer. The first camera was installed at US 2 and North Access Rd. (Costco) intersection. The second camera was installed at US 395 and Wandermere Rd. intersection.

Timeline

Project was completed in mid-June.

US 2 - Reardan to Espanola Rd - Paving - Complete June 2019

Project news

Awarded to Shamrock Paving Inc. on December 26, 2018, for $2,222,222.

Needs & benefits

This project will restore 7.6 miles of existing asphalt pavement by grinding and place 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes. The project will extend west of the City of Reardan and end at Espanola Rd.

Timeline

The project was substantially completed on June 12. All corrective items addressed and the project is now complete.

US 195 - SR 271 to Plaza RD - Paving - Completed July 2019

All paving was completed in July 2019.

Needs & benefits

The existing pavement surface for this 7.8 miles of US 195 reached the end of its service life. The project ground out the existing broken and rough surface, paving it back with a new hot mix asphalt which will maintain the serviceability of this route.

US 195 - Smythe Rd to Paradise Rd - Decreasing Lanes Only - Paving - Complete May 2019

Project news

US 195 traffic will be impacted late spring 2019, to summer 2019 while the roadway surface is rehabilitated.  The work will take place approximately 10 miles south of the City of Spokane and have potential short term traffic delays for several weeks.

Needs & benefits

Northbound lanes of this divided section of highway are constructed of Portland Cement Concrete pavement, which remains in serviceable condition.

I-90 - Geiger Interchange Improvements

Project news

Please join us for an online open-house to learn about design features, roundabout safety and leave us feedback and questions.

This project is currently in the traffic analysis phase. During this phase, different alternatives will be considered and a preferred option will be selected based on the needs of the interchange identified in the analysis. Construction is funded in the "Connecting Washington" package. WSDOT plans to advertise this project for construction bids in October 2020.

The contract was awarded on January 23, to Shamrock Paving, Inc.

Project is anticipated to begin in June.

US 2 - Colbert Rd to Westwood Rd - Paving - Complete October 2019

The project was awarded to Inland Asphalt Co. on February 25. 

Needs & benefits

This project is located on US 2 between MP 299.74 and 306.01 in Spokane County. This project involves bridge deck repair, hot mix asphalt, grinding and paving. It also includes the installation of guardrails and rumble strips. 

This project will rehabilitate the existing pavement to preserve the pavement structure while achieving the lowest life cycle for pavement service life.

Timeline

All work was completed October 2019.

US 2 - Division Wye to Farwell Rd - Paving - Complete October 2019

Project news

Located on US 2 (N. Newport Hwy) within the city of Spokane and Spokane County, this pavement rehabilitation project begins at the Division Wye and extends to Farwell Road. Grinding and paving almost two inches of hot mix asphalt is intended to preserve the pavement structure below and provide a newer, smoother ride.

The project extends through five signalized intersections:

US 2 - Hayford Road to Deer Heights Road - Median Channelization - Complete June 2019

Project news

The project was awarded to Cameron-Reilly, LLC on March 15. The center two-way, left-turn lane in the vicinity of the project will be closed for the duration of the project. 

Needs & benefits

Revises the channelization and illumination near Hazelwood Road in Airway Heights.

Timeline

Work began April 15 and has been completed. No further work is scheduled.

US 195 - Thorpe Rd Intersection Improvements - Completed October 2019

Construction at Thorpe Road for intersection improvements are complete.

This project is located on US 195 between MP 94.44 and 95.44 in Spokane County. The project involved hot mix asphalt paving, illumination, and guardrail improvements. This project constructed a new feature for our area called "J-Turns".

I-90 - US 2 Garden Springs to Broadway Ave - Ramp Meters

Project news

The contract was awarded to Northeast Electric LLC on January 16. Construction began May 12.

During construction, each ramp will temporarily close for a period of three days up to one week. Only one ramp will be closed at a time for the construction of the ramp meter.

US 395 - North Spokane Corridor - BNSF 2nd Railroad Realignment

Project news

This is the second project in the realignment of the BNSF railroad tracks. The first realignment was completed late fall of 2015. The project was awarded to Halme Construction on August 12.

Needs & benefits

This project will realign the BNSF railroad tracks in north Spokane for the future US 395 highway. This project includes constructing two railroad structures, retaining walls, roadway excavation and embankment, paving with hot mix asphalt, placing curbing and sidewalk.

Timeline

Construction began on September 30, 2019.
