WSDOT North Central Region Weekly Construction Update & Travel Advisory for July 15 - July 19

Take Note: 

  • The City of Quincy closed SR 28 at the intersection of 13th Avenue for continuing work on the construction of a roundabout at that site.  Traffic will be detoured on White Trail Road and SR 281.  This detour will be in place through Friday, July 19 at 5 p.m.  

Active projects:

US 2/97 at 35th Street NW – NW Empire Avenue to Cascade Avenue Project (Douglas County) 
County: Douglas   Highway: US 2/97  Region: North Central
Location: US 2/97 at Cascade Avenue  
Description:  This project will extend 35th Street across Cascade Avenue to the west to connect with Empire Avenue in Douglas County.
Work schedule: Cascade Street at the intersection with US 2/97 is closed while the contractor works on this project.  There is a signed detour.

SR 28 Ephrata  to Soap Lake Paving and ADA Compliance #9367
County: Grant  Highway: SR 28  Region: North Central
Location: MP 44.5-53.0  (Ephrata to Soap Lake)
Description: In this $3.6 million project, Columbia Asphalt and Ready Mix crews are lowering utilities and updating deficient sidewalk curb ramps to meet ADA standards.  Project began March 25 and should be complete in August. 
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect delays up to 20 minutes with lane shifts and alternating one-way traffic in Ephrata where the contractor is completing utility work and fog sealing.  On Thursday, the contract will also be conducting chip sealing operations south of Ephrata during the day, where there will be flagger controlled, alternating one way traffic with delays.

SR 28/13th Avenue Roundabout (City of Quincy) 
County: Grant   Highway: SR 28  Region: North Central
Location: SR 28 MP 28 (intersection with 13th Avenue)  
Description:  The City of Quincy has contracted Tommer Construction to build a roundabout at the intersection of SR 28 and 13th Avenue.
Work schedule: SR 28 at the roundabout construction site is closed and traffic has been detoured onto White Trail Road and SR 281.  Local traffic will still be able to travel into the city of Quincy; however, the vicinity of the roundabout will be closed to all traffic.  This closure will remain in place through Friday, July 19 at 5 p.m.

I-90 Bridge Slab Edge Repair (Moses Lake)
County: Grant  Highway: I-90  Region: North Central
Location: MP 175.5-176.1 (east of Blue Heron Park, Moses Lake)
Description: Maintenance work to repair concrete on bridge slab edges with patching material.  Work will require lane closures and reduced speed zone during working hours with bridge crew on and around the bridge.  Work is schedule to be complete the end of June.
Work schedule: Wednesday and Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., right lane closures and reduced speed zone of 55 mph through work zone.  Speed limit returns to 70 mph during non-working hours, including weekends.

US 97 South of Blewett Pass Paving #9339
County: Kittitas  Highway: US 97  Region: North Central
Location: MP 149 - 165 (Junction with SR 970 to Tronson Creek near summit of Blewett Pass)
Description: Central Washington Asphalt is the contractor for this project.  The project will preserve roadway integrity by planning and paving between the junction with SR 970 to Tronson Creek near the summit of Blewett Pass.  The project is scheduled to complete late August.
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., expect one lane, flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes in the work zone where the contractor will be paving, starting at the junction of US 97 and SR 970 and working north toward the summit of Blewett Pass.

US 97 Boundary Bridge #9323
County: Kittitas  Highway: US 97  Region: North Central
Location: MP 159-160 (near Swauk Campground)
Description: In this $4.5M project, WHH Nisqually Construction Services will construct a concrete bridge to replace an old culvert that created a fish passage barrier. Work will include a detour widening to shift traffic while the bridge is constructed half at a time.  Two-way traffic will be maintained outside working hours throughout the life of the project, except some instances of work that may require overnight flagging. No full closures of US 97 are planned for this project.  Work started April 15, 2019.
Work schedule: Monday and Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes near Swauk Campground as the contractor continues drilled shaft construction.  Traffic in both directions has been shifted to detour lanes requiring a 12 ft. width restriction and a reduced speed of 50 mph through the work zone.  These restrictions will remain in place during non-working hours through the duration of the project.  Bypass lanes have narrow shoulders.

SR 153 Methow River Bridge Structural Rehabilitation, Phase 3 #9388
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 153 Region: North Central 
Location: MP 11.83-22.36 (Methow to Carlton)
Description: The third phase of rehabilitation work on the three Methow River bridges between Methow and Carlton.  This work will include column jacketing and retrofitting to rehabilitate these bridges.  Work begins June 17 and is scheduled to be complete the end of September.  Traffic control will include alternating, single lane travel on each bridge consecutively.  The project is schedule to be complete the end of September.
Work Schedule: Beginning July 17 through September, there will be intermittent flagger controlled traffic at all three bridges Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  Work is still primarily under and around the bridge, so delays will be short, primarily when the crew is moving and staging equipment.

SR 155 NCR Seal 2019 #9365
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 155  Region: North Central
Location:  MP 29-79 (Coulee Dam to Omak)
Description: In this $8.5M project, Granite Construction is resurfacing SR 155 from Coulee Dam to Omak,  Work includes crack sealing, shoulder work, pavement repair, asphalt paving, and chip sealing to preserve the roadway. Work started April 22 and is expected to be complete in August.
Work Schedule: Monday and Tuesday only, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. expect delays up to 20 min. in two separate work zones and pilot car controlled traffic where the contractor is fog sealing.

SR 243 NCR Seal 2019 #9365
County: Grant  Highway: SR 243  Region: North Central
Location: MP 0-28 Vernita to Vantage
Description:  In this $8.5M project, Granite Construction is resurfacing SR 243 from the junction with 24 to the junction with SR 26,  Work includes crack sealing, shoulder work, pavement repair, asphalt paving, and chip sealing to preserve the roadway. Work started April 22 and is expected to be complete in August.
Work Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday only, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. expect delays up to 20 min. with flaggers and pilot car controlled traffic where the contractor is chip sealing.
