WSDOT North Central Region Weekly Construction Update & Travel Advisory for July 13-17, 2020

Take Note: 

  • Blue Lake rest area is closed until further notice.
  • SR 282 will close on Friday at 6 p.m. between SR 28 and Dodson Rd. for chipseal work.  The road will reopen no later than Monday, July 13 at 6 a.m.

Active projects:

US 2 Stevens Pass Eastside Paving #9487
County: Chelan  Highway: US 2 Region: North Central
Location: MP 71-78 (Berne, east of summit)
Description: Inland Asphalt is the contractor for this $3.05 million dollar project to resurface deteriorating asphalt concrete pavement to extend the life of this section of roadway.  
Work schedule:  Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with pilot car and delays up to 20 minutes.  Monday through Wednesday, the contractor will repair pavement.  On Thursday, paving will begin at milepost 78.63 (Rayrock) and work west.

SR 20 Rainy Pass Flood Deflection Berm #9485
County: Skagit  Highway: SR 20 Region: North Central
Location: MP 149-150
Description: Tiger Construction is the contractor for a project to build flood deflection improvements on SR 20 between milepost 149.88 and 150.06 in Skagit County.  Work will include clearing and grubbing, channel excavation, new culvert pipe installation, and seeding.
Work schedule: Wednesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., expect shoulder closures and intermittent flagger controlled traffic with delays as the contractor stages and preps the job site for the deflection berm.

SR 20 Chipseal 2020 #9500
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 20  Region: North Central
Location: MP 194-209
Description: WSDOT seal projects restore and preserve region highways to extend the life cycle of the roadway.  This year's seal work addresses 65 miles of 3 rural highways; SR 282 from Ephrata to SR 17 (MP 0.00 to 4.92), SR 153 from Pateros to Twisp (MP 0.00 to MP 30.74), SR 20 Winthrop to SR 153 (MP 194.32 to MP 209.0), SR 20  from Aeneas Valley Rd east to Wauconda Pass (MP 274.66 to MP 288.87).  The contract includes asphalt paving, chip sealing, shoulder and pavement repair, bridge deck repair, 37 miles of centerline rumble strips as well as new pavement markings.
Work schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes where the contractor is fog sealing.

Location: MP 274-289 Aeneas Valley
Description: WSDOT seal projects restore and preserve region highways to extend the life cycle of the roadway.  This year's seal work addresses 65 miles of 3 rural highways; SR 282 from Ephrata to SR 17 (MP 0.00 to 4.92), SR 153 from Pateros to Twisp (MP 0.00 to MP 30.74), SR 20 Winthrop to SR 153 (MP 194.32 to MP 209.0), SR 20  from Aeneas Valley Rd east to Wauconda Pass (MP 274.66 to MP 288.87).  The contract includes asphalt paving, chip sealing, shoulder and pavement repair, bridge deck repair, 37 miles of centerline rumble strips as well as new pavement markings.
Work schedule: Tuesday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes where the contractor is installing guideposts on the shoulder of the road.

SR 20 Shoulder Washout Repair (Wauconda)
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 20 Region: North Central
Location: MP 289-297
Description: A maintenance crew will grade and reshape roadway shoulders from the Wauconda summit to the Ferry County line.
Work schedule: Monday through Wednesday, from 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with some delays.

SR 28 Shoulder & Culvert Repair (Soap Lake)
County: Grant  Highway: SR 28 Region: North Central
Location: MP 53-79
Description: A maintenance crew is repairing shoulder and culverts between Soap Lake and the Lincoln County line.
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., be attentive for maintenance work on the roadway shoulder.

I-90 Cable Barrier Upgrades #9528
County: Grant  Highway: I-90 Region: North Central
Location: MP 144- 192 (Silica Rd. to Adams County Line)
Description: A contractor for WSDOT will install new concrete anchors and barrier cables on the freeway.  This project is scheduled through the end of July.
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., expect inside lane closures on the freeway in both directions where the contractor is installing cable barrier.

US 97 Weathering Steel Guardrail Rehabilitation #9525 
County: Kittitas/Chelan  Highway: US 97 Region: North Central
Location: MP 152-178 (Blewett Pass)
Description: Frank Gurney, Inc. is the contractor for this project to remove old guardrail and install weathering steel guardrail.  Work is scheduled to be complete in early August.
Work schedule: Tuesday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes where the crew is installing new guardrail.

US 97 Boundary Bridge #9323
County: Kittitas  Highway: US 97  Region: North Central
Location: MP 159-160 (near Swauk Campground)
Description: In this $4.5M project, WHH Nisqually Construction Services will construct a concrete bridge to replace an old culvert that created a fish passage barrier. Work will include a detour widening to shift traffic while the bridge is constructed half at a time.  Two-way traffic will be maintained outside working hours throughout the life of the project, except some instances of work that may require overnight flagging. No full closures of US 97 are planned for this project.  Work started on March 9 and is scheduled to be complete in November.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., there is the potential for intermittent flagging with delays as the contractor stages equipment.  Traffic has been shifted to a temporary bypass lane with a reduced speed limit and 12 ft. width restriction.  Bypass lane has narrow shoulder.

West Cashmere Bridge Replacement Project (Chelan County)
County: Chelan  Highway: US 2/97  Region: North Central
Location: MP 110
Description:  A contractor for Chelan County will remove and replace the failing W. Cashmere Bridge.  Eastbound exit to bridge will be closed until project completion in 2021.  Expect lane shift, speed reductions and intermittent flagger controlled traffic as the project progresses.  
Work schedule: Tuesday only, from 8:30 to 12:30 p.m., expect eastbound lane closures on the highway and flagger controlled traffic, west of the intersection with Hay Canyon Rd near Cashmere.  Westbound traffic will not be effected.   Eastbound off ramp and westbound turn lane to W. Cashmere Bridge/Goodwin Rd. will be closed.

SR 153 Chipseal 2020 #9500
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 153  Region: North Central
Location: MP 0-30 (Methow Valley)
Description: WSDOT seal projects restore and preserve region highways to extend the life cycle of the roadway.  This year's seal work addresses 65 miles of 3 rural highways; SR 282 from Ephrata to SR 17 (MP 0.00 to 4.92), SR 153 from Pateros to Twisp (MP 0.00 to MP 30.74), SR 20 Winthrop to SR 153 (MP 194.32 to MP 209.0), SR 20  from Aeneas Valley Rd east to Wauconda Pass (MP 274.66 to MP 288.87).  The contract includes asphalt paving, chip sealing, shoulder and pavement repair, bridge deck repair, 37 miles of centerline rumble strips as well as new pavement markings.
Work schedule: Monday and Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes.  Work on Monday will include fog sealing and guardrail work, and on Tuesday a survey crew will be working at the bridge at milepost 3.66.

SR 282 Chipseal 2020 #9500

Location: MP 0-4.92 (Ephrata)
Description: WSDOT seal projects restore and preserve region highways to extend the life cycle of the roadway.  This year's seal work addresses 65 miles of 3 rural highways; SR 282 from Ephrata to SR 17 (MP 0.00 to 4.92), SR 153 from Pateros to Twisp (MP 0.00 to MP 30.74), SR 20 Winthrop to SR 153 (MP 194.32 to MP 209.0), SR 20  from Aeneas Valley Rd east to Wauconda Pass (MP 274.66 to MP 288.87).  The contract includes asphalt paving, chip sealing, shoulder and pavement repair, bridge deck repair, 37 miles of centerline rumble strips as well as new pavement markings.
Work schedule: Road is closed between junction of SR 28 and Dodson Rd. from Friday (7/10) until 6 p.m. Monday (7/13).  Monday and Thursday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes.  Work on Monday will include shoulder finishing work and Thursday the contractor will be fog sealing the entire length of the project.
