WSDOT North Central Region Weekly Construction Update & Travel Advisory for June 17- June 22

Take Note:

  • Chelan Century Challenge and Cycle de Vine on June 22 will bring hundreds of bicyclists to state highways and local roads around Lake Chelan.  Share the road!
  • US 97 Blewett Pass- Expect delays at two work zones Monday through Thursday this week, one at Swauk Creek and a paving project between junction of SR 970 and Blewett Pass summit.

 

Active projects:

US 2 NCR ADA Compliance Project #9327
County: Chelan, Highway: US 2  Region: North Central
Location: MP 82 (Nason Creek Rest Area) & MP 99 to 101 (Leavenworth)
Description: In this $714,113 project, Merno & Nelson Construction Corp. is improving ADA curb ramps, gutter, and sidewalks at the Nason Creek Rest Area (completed) and through the City of Leavenworth. Construction began in April and is nearing completion.
Work schedule: Monday day, expect shoulder work at the intersection of US 2 and Riverbend Drive in Leavenworth, then flagger-controlled traffic with some delays Monday night beginning at 6 p.m. to no later than Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. where contractor’s electrical crew will be continuing to work on the signal light at that intersection.  Tuesday day, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of

US 2/97 at 35th Street NW – NW Empire Avenue to Cascade Avenue Project (Douglas County) 
County: Douglas   Highway: US 2/97  Region: North Central
Location: US 2/97 at Cascade Avenue  
Description:  This project will extend 35th Street across Cascade Avenue to the west to connect with Empire Avenue in Douglas County.
Work schedule: Cascade Street at the intersection with US 2/97 is closed while the contractor works on this project.  There is a signed detour.

SR 20 / Loup Loup Pass Emergency Repair #4952
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 20  Region: North Central
Location: MP 222.35-222.45  (8 miles east of Loup Loup Pass)
Description: Resulting from a May 1 washout, this $1.3 Million emergency contract includes constructing an access road to the bottom of the fill, removing saturated soils, construction of a drainage system to route underground water away from the roadway, rebuilding the slope, replacing damaged pavement and guardrail, and replacing a failed under-drain on the opposite shoulder. Repairs began May 10 and work will be completed by the evening of June 19. 
Work schedule: Expect a one-lane, signal or flagger controlled traffic control for the remainder of the project.  During work hours there will be intermittent flagger-controlled traffic with delays as the contractor finishes paving and drainage repairs (work days/hours are Monday - Saturday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

SR 28 Ephrata  to Soap Lake Paving and ADA Compliance #9367
County: Grant  Highway: SR 28  Region: North Central
Location: MP 44.5-53.0  (Ephrata to Soap Lake)
Description: In this $3.6 million project, Columbia Asphalt and Ready Mix crews are lowering utilities and updating deficient sidewalk curb ramps to meet ADA standards.  Project began March 25 and should be complete in August. 
Work schedule: Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect 20 minute delays in Ephrata and between Ephrata and Soap Lake where the crew is paving, and minor delays with lane shifts, shoulder and sidewalk closures with pedestrian detours within Ephrata city limits.

SR 28/13th Avenue Roundabout (City of Quincy) 
County: Grant   Highway: SR 28  Region: North Central
Location: SR 28 MP 28 (intersection with 13th Avenue)  
Description:  The City of Quincy has contracted Tommer Construction to build a roundabout at the intersection of SR 28 and 13th Avenue.
Work schedule: Travelers may encounter intermittent flagger-controlled traffic.  Motorcycles should use caution traveling through the work zone.

I-90 Bridge Slab Edge Repair (Moses Lake)
County: Grant  Highway: I-90  Region: North Central
Location: MP 175.5-176.1 (east of Blue Heron Park, Moses Lake)
Description: Maintenance work to repair concrete on bridge slab edges with patching material.  Work will require lane closures and reduced speed zone during working hours with bridge crew on and around the bridge.  Work is schedule to be complete the end of June.
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., right lane closures and reduced speed zone of 55 mph through work zone.  Speed limit returns to 70 mph during non-working hours, including weekends.

US 97 South of Blewett Pass Paving #9339
County: Kittitas  Highway: US 97  Region: North Central
Location: MP 149 - 165 (Junction with SR 970 to Tronson Creek near summit of Blewett Pass)
Description: Central Washington Asphalt is the contractor for this project.  The project will preserve roadway integrity by planning and paving between the junction with SR 970 to Tronson Creek near the summit of Blewett Pass.  The project is schedule to complete late August.
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., one lane, flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes in the work zone where the crew will be planing the travel lanes in preparation for paving.  Work will also include curb and guardrail work in various locations through the project

US 97 Boundary Bridge #9323
County: Kittitas  Highway: US 97  Region: North Central
Location: MP 159-160 (near Swauk Campground)
Description: In this $4.5M project, WHH Nisqually Construction Services will construct a concrete bridge to replace an old culvert that created a fish passage barrier. Work will include a detour widening to shift traffic while the bridge is constructed half at a time.  Two-way traffic will be maintained outside working hours throughout the life of the project, except some instances of work that may require overnight flagging. No full closures of US 97 are planned for this project.  Work started April 15 and is scheduled to be complete in late October.
Work schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes near Swauk Campground as the contractor continues construction of a temporary detour widening.

US 97A Pedestrian Activated Warning System and Improvements #9427
County: Chelan  Highway: US 97A  Region: North Central
Location: MP 233 to 234 (City of Chelan)
Description: In this project, Neppel Electrical Controls has been selected as the contract to install pedestrian activated warning systems on US 97A at Chelan Elementary School and Chelan High School in the city of Chelan.  Work is schedule to be complete by the end of June
Work schedule: Monday though Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. there will be shoulder closures and single lane, flagger controlled traffic with minor delays at the intersection of US 97A and Webster Avenue where the contractor is installing the warning system’s electric components and concrete sidewalk ramps.

SR 153 Methow River Bridge Structural Rehabilitation, Phase 3 #9388
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 153 Region: North Central 
Location: MP 11.83-22.36 (Methow to Carlton)
Description: The third phase of rehabilitation work on the three Methow River bridges between Methow and Carlton.  This work will include column jacketing and retrofitting to rehabilitate these bridges.  Work begins June 17 and is scheduled to be complete the end of September.  Traffic control will include alternating, single lane travel on each bridge consecutively.  The project is schedule to be complete the end of September.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. there will be flagger controlled, single lane traffic with delays over Bridge #10 (southern most bridge near Methow).

SR 155 Grand Coulee Bridge Illumination Upgrade #9387
County: Douglas  Highway: SR 155 Region: North Central 
Location: MP 28 (Coulee Dam)
Description: In this $242,086 project, Colvico, Inc. will upgrade the current illumination system for the Grand Coulee Bridge with LED lights.  There are no full closures scheduled for this work.  Work is scheduled to take about a month.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. watch for the contractor crew working around the bridge and on the shoulders but otherwise no traffic impacts this week.

SR 155 NCR Seal 2019 #9365
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 155  Region: North Central
Location:  MP 29-79 (Coulee Dam to Omak)
Description: In this $8.5M project, Granite Construction is resurfacing SR 155 from Coulee Dam to Omak,  Work includes crack sealing, shoulder work, pavement repair, asphalt paving, and chip sealing to preserve the roadway. Work started April 22 and is expected to be complete in August.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. expect delays up to 20 min. at a single work zone and pilot car controlled traffic while the contractor installs rumble strips and guideposts.

SR 213 NCR Seal 2019 #9365
County: Okanogan  Highway: SR 213  Region: North Central
Location:  MP 0-0.35 (US 97 to Malott)
Description: In this $8.5M project, Granite Construction is resurfacing SR 213 from US 97 to Malott,  Work includes crack sealing, shoulder work, pavement repair, asphalt paving, and chip sealing to preserve the roadway. Work started May 6 and is expected to be complete in August.
Work Schedule: Thursday only, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., expect up to 20 minute delays with flagger controlled traffic between US 97 and Malott for guidepost installation.

SR 243 NCR Seal 2019 #9365
County: Grant  Highway: SR 243  Region: North Central
Location: MP 0-28 Vernita to Vantage
Description:  In this $8.5M project, Granite Construction is resurfacing SR 243 from the junction with 24 to the junction with SR 26,  Work includes crack sealing, shoulder work, pavement repair, asphalt paving, and chip sealing to preserve the roadway. Work started April 22 and is expected to be complete in August.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. expect delays up to 20 min. with flaggers and pilot car controlled traffic where crews are asphalt paving and fog sealing.
